Day 1 - NYC

We left Long Beach Airport on JetBlue at 710a arriving in JFK at 320p. As we were on the plane we discovered that the London subway bombings had occurred that very morning and shortly after the subway and train transits would be on high alert here in the US. So upon our arrival we didn't know what to expect especially because we had prepared to take the subway everywhere, even from JFK to our hotel in Midtown.

Upon our arrival, aside from a few federal agents with machine guns (quite a surreal sight) in the terminal of the airport rail systems, it was business as usual. We hopped on the E train into Manhattan. A 40 minute subway ride, a brisk 2 block walk, we were finally at our destination.

The rest of the day was getting situated. We had dinner at John's Pizza in the Theatre District. The food was great, exactly what we wanted in our first meal in the Big Apple. Then we took a short subway ride over to Grand Central Station and did some more exploring.


Times Square was our first stop. NYC is the only city that appears exactly as it does in the movies.


'Lost in the Lights'


Our first meal..what else than NY pizza. We headed into the ever so popular John's Pizza on 44th and Broadway for some good ol grubbing.


NY's subway system is amazing. Also it's like a boiler room on a hot summer evening. This was our main source of transportation.
